Canada Tibet Committee
The
Canada Tibet Committee (CTC), formed
nationally in 1987, is a
registered, non-profit organization with chapters across Canada and
headquarters in Montreal. The Victoria Chapter of CTC, formed in 1988,
actively works to increase awareness of Tibet and Tibetans on local and
national levels.
The CTC is a volunteer organization committed to
non-violence, funded by private donations, special events and
membership. A legitimate voice in Canada for Tibetans, each Chapter
includes a Tibetan within its executive.
The Canada Tibet Committee organizes:
- calls for universal human rights and freedoms for the
Tibetan people
- monitors and reports violations of human rights in Tibet
- information on the situation in Tibet and the history and
culture of the Tibetan people
lobbying of Canadian Members of Parliament, provincial and local
governments to act - quickly to help the Tibetan people
- information for the media about conditions in Tibet
- lectures, conferences, rallies and cultural events by
working with other international non-governmental organizations and
Tibet support groups
The Canada Tibet Committee is committed to drawing the
attention of Canadians and people world-wide, to the illegal occupation
of Tibet by the People's Republic of China and the resulting human
rights abuses and cultural genocide.
The CTC is headquartered in Montreal
