                                  MEMORIALS
The Church Board of James Bay United Church oversees the acceptance and  placement of all Memorial gifts to our church. The majority of these gifts is in the form of cash, which may or may not be designated for a particular project or needed item. Sometimes a donation may be a piece of furniture or object required for the enhancement of worship and the work of the church.

Several years ago, the church had been the beneficiary of some significant bequests. These funds have been entrusted to the Victoria Foundation which will invests and manages the funds to provide an annuity for church operations. With future bequests this fund should grow to the point of being a consistent source of income for the church.

In addition, some bequests have been for a specific purpose, one being to install stained glass windows in the east wall of the church where the space for windows had been boarded over for a number of years.

                           MEMORIAL GARDEN
In a protected space behind James Bay United Church is a small oasis of flowers, plants, and peacefulness. This site has been dedicated as a memorial garden and sacred space. For that reason, the area will never be legally disturbed, no matter what urban development should occur in the vicinity. If JBUC ceased to exist, the soil from the memorial gardens, containing ashes and memorial plaques, will be removed to another suitable location. A gardener tends to the care of the garden, and special donations have made possible the planting of a wide variety of flowers and perennials which thrive in the West Coast environment.

Those who wish to place ashes of a deceased loved one in the garden are asked to pay a $200 fee, which helps us provide perpetual care for the garden.

Names of individuals whose ashes have been placed in the garden are recorded in the Memorial Book.

The Memorial Garden provides a quiet sanctuary in the middle of the city.
